[cheers and applause] billie ray cyrus good job billy, awesome. >> thank you. >> brian: i'm listening to this song and i'm wondering did you grow up in a musical household in kentucky? was there a guitar playing going on in christmas when you opened up the present after santa got there? >> there was guitar playing. drums. i got drums as a little boy and made a lot of noise with that. my pappa played the fiddle. my mom played the piano. my mom had a gospel quartet there was a lot of singing around the house. >> brian: growing up, what was your memory of christmas little billie ray. you still have a little kid's name billy ray cyrus never gets old. what was it like? >> you know, i think it was always about the spirit of

christmas that, you know, christmas is about, you know, our savior being born. [ applause ] >> brian: jesus doesn't get the applause usually in church but gets it here with billy ray. good job. this kentucky kid had a chance to spend some quality time in new york in the middle of sandy and sandy smashes in. in what did it affect you and what way did new york surprise you? >> well, being here in the middle of new york city when sandy hit, like for everyone, it was a different and strange time, but what i got to see was the resiliency and the will of the people of this area to stand up and love each other, to help each other, to rebuild -- this city is a great city. this area is strong. [ applause ]

>> when stuff happens, they get back up and they dealt with it you know, as well and as fiercely as it could be dealt with. i just think the humanity of the people that's what overwhelmed me the will of the people was hey, we get knocked down we get back up. new york city and this whole area it's just been an honor to be here during this time period. >> you are the perfect person to be on our show today. not only are raw great american success story you love this country and you are wearing the stars and stripes around your neck and your music is very patriotic. that's why you are always so welcome on "fox & friends" this holiday season especially. billy ray. thanks so much. >> thank you. let's go over to alisyn camerota. >> i'm joined by two people whose lives were turned upside down by hurricane sandy. pastor joseph morsey a sta ten island business. home and business were destroyed. he had only sat in his new office twice before this storm

hit. tell us what the storm was like for you, pastor. >> quite honestly, it was a privilege because as a pastor, and as someone who tries to lead by example, it was a privilege to be able to serve all those others whose lives were turned upside down. so instead of worrying and mourning and all of those things. i had the opportunity to help serve everyone else in the neighborhood. >> alisyn: that's a wonderful perspective and wonderful silver lining but we know it couldn't have been easy. tell us about some the stories in your neighborhood. >> yes, our house happened to be the first house right on the ocean and it was literally ripped in half from top to bottom. the top half was removed and went two houses up the street and got stuck on a fire hydrant and sat in the middle of the street while all of my neighbor's homes were completely devastated. it was very very difficult. >> alisyn: we can hear how difficult that was.

i want to bring in bowman now. you lived through sandy. you have loads of grandchildren. this couldn't have been easy for your family. tell us what it was like. it's devastating. >> alisyn: your home was destroyed. >> yes, it was destroyed. we felt helpless and alone if it wasn't for the people the neighborhood. they brought us down food. hot coffee. without our people we wouldn't have been able to do it. >> alisyn: that's a wonderful message also. how will you deal with christmas this year? the grand kids keep you going. even though you don't feel the joy it's there with them. >> that is the beauty of children. we are so happy that you are here with us for this christmas celebration today. we really appreciate it really inspirational message. gretchen let's go over to you. >> thank you so much, alisyn. today of course we are

celebrating baby jesus. his parents forced to find shelter in a marriage when there was no room at the inn. >> that's what christmas is all about. it's something our friend, pastor and former arkansas governor mike huckabee knows quite a bit about. he joins us now with a very special christmas message. >> mike: i hope you and your family are going to have a wonderful christmas. my guess is you will probably be very busy. busy getting the right give gift and making sure all the things on your christmas table are exactly right. you will will probably be frustrated because nothing will be perfect. never has been. and never will be. christmas is not about us being able to do something that is completely perfect. if you let that spoil your christmas if you lead that diminish what this is all about. you may have missed the real meaning of christmas. because christmas is not so much about finding perfection in what we do. the real meaning of christmas is finding when god showed up

on earth he did it perfectly. it didn't look like it at the time. it looked like a disaster. young unmarried teenage girl couldn't find a place to deliver her baby. ended up having to go to a barn. only place to lay the newborn was in the feeding trough intended for goats and animals. that wasn't a mistake. you see, god wanted to show up in the most unlikely place because he wanted to remind us that when we think he can't find us, when we think somehow that he doesn't understand just how tough life is for us, actually he understands completely. because there is in place that he can't find us. and there is no condition that he hasn't experienced. that is the real perfect christmas. >> dave: thanks governor. this may look like clark griswold's house it is actually bob beckel's home. close enough. wait until you hear why he goes berserk with the decorations. >> my favorite christmas memory it was christmas 1978,

>> do you have any idea how bright your house is. >> i thought i would do it in a big way. when i had a big house it was probably 200,000 lights. it will be about 100,000 when it is over. >> hallelujah ♪ hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. >> these are some the things that i do every year. this is one of the favorite ones everybody likes. skiing dog and his friends up on the ski slope. they come on down and he actually skis and this fellow i got he shoots snow and then we have got the guard dog right here and, of course, all this is an that and the sleighs and his entourage, the anti-lopes. this is what it is all about. i had the sign -- when i tried to decide what it was why do you do this every year? it got down to this. this display is all for all the kids in this neighborhood

[ applause ] >> steve: these folks are from staten island. >> i know. god bless y'all. god bless y'all. i met some real heros in your community the other day brought in 1.4 million servings to y'all in that area

you a merry christmas and happy new year. >> gretchen: thank you very much, sean. he has performed on five continents for president and many foreign dignitaries. only person ever to graduate are the juld school of music with a double major in piano and organ. a near death experience at near 19 years old changed his life forever. pianist and my friend randal atcheson joins me now so great to see you. >> thank you. >> gretchen: i have been so blessed because you are my children's piano teacher as well and such an amazing my its is. you had this near death experience at age 19. you almost drowned. what happened? >> it was actually at a friend's engagement party. i was throwing him in this body of water. and i never been in a body of water bigger than a baptistry. i didn't know how to swim. i was 19 years old. i just started to the july.

i know the dogs learn to swim and you can throw them in. i thought i will imagine. i wasn't. and then all of a sudden i left my body. my spirit just left my body and went into this incredible tunnel of white life light. the most brilliant light i had ever seen. started floating effortlessly. my first thought was first piano teacher and second piano teacher and third piano teacher i realized i had a good wonderful life. how could i be dying i just got started. then i realized it was pretty great that being in this tunnel of light it was very surreal and i did have a choice to struggle and go back or i felt that i could just simply release and continue in this journey and this tunnel of light. and i know it was a wonderful

glorious thing gretchen but you were saved. >> i was saved. i did get so far as to see the face of god welcoming me into heaven and its with a beautiful cloud-like father-like face of god. >> gretchen: how has it changed how you lived the rest of your life through your faith and your music? >> it changed my life to appreciate life here on earth but also to look forward to going to heaven. >> gretchen: you say that you don't fear death in any way. >> i have no fear of death and i -- if i can offer one message to people who lost loved ones and wonder what happens after death, for me, knowing god and going to god was the greatest blessing of my life so far this near death experience. >> gretchen: i have had the privilege of hearing you perform so many times. many people often call it a religious experience to hear you play. and now we're going to be blessed to hear you play a medley of christmas music.

how badly you were affected or not. everyone is trying to pitch in to make sure that everyone is okay. >> on your album cover your your christmas album you and your sister are holding candy canes. >> my mom used to go to queens and get giant candy canes. i loved them. they were huge and i loved candy. that was always great to look forward to. >> clayton: ashanti, merry christmas to you. dave and al, what's coming up? the holidays are all about family. >> alisyn: fox news legal analyst peter johnson jr. and his daughters veronica and blanch. >> we're happy to share christmas eve again with you. in early december we experienced what all of us do experience the loss of a loved one. my giant of a father blanch and veronica's loving pappa

went to heaven after a long and wonderful life. he was known as a protecter of the fallen and a voice for those without a voice. >> we cried at my grandfather's passing and we wondered whether the hope of christmas would be darkened. we always associated christmas with the boundless joy he and my grandmother brought to children each year with their annual christmas party. my grandmother and uncle chris decided that the tradition should continue. they understood the birth of jesus and its message congress corresponding watt key to healing and renewal. the christmas party went on. the children laughed and the parents beamed as we raised money for charity. >> mad man slashed the face of evil newtown. 26 lives snuffed out including 20, six and seven-year-old children. i asked what could i do to help them i told the produce everies i need to go there they said peter, fleece go. >> my father arrived in newtown as the subject rose. the sky was streaked with red i asked myself whether the clouds like the grieving mothers and fathers of newtown

had also spent the night crying my father looked up at the skies and too wondered aloud how could the skies be so bright on such a dark day. we went to the church where parishioners weeped and lit candles in memo rift innocence lost. >> later that morning i watched my father interview monday senior weis. he described how he broken the news of the death of one girl to her brother. we heard how another boy lamented i don't want to die i just want to have christmas. my father noted that worshipers would march around in the church to a live nativity scene as the deacon announced there was a star over the stable. the monday senior vowed we are not just going to be looking for one star. we are going to be looking for 20 new stars too. the hope of christmas, christmas would not be extinguished. >> at that very moment as i stood in the cold connecticut air and touched by the souls of the sweet spotless stainless infants i understood the reality of the renewal and sanctifying grace of the christ child.

i reminded the audience and myself what dr. king had said death is not a blind alley but an open door. but i also worry they are so young. who will greet them at that door? we said our good byes and i prayed for the spirit of olivia ingle who was to be an angel in the christmas pageant. on that day i summoned my shaken faith and prayed that the families if they were believers would draw on that faith, too. and then it came to me, i wanted a hug and reassure them that the strongest, most nurturing garden of fallen angels i know my own lost father would be standing among those at the gates of heaven to lovingly take the children by the hand to introduce them to their new friend forever the christ child named jesus born in a little town called bethlehem. >> as we left newtown, we were more hopeful than when we arrived. we past a shrine to the children which included christmas toys. as the sky turned from red to blue the radio played angel

small piano store in a piano store owned by paul. wants to practice. there is a piano mover that happens to edit well. i move into this guy's street we start writing songs together it just sort of gelled. >> organically. do you things with instruments including the piano things we have never seen before. it's totally unique in the music industry. john, let me ask you, you also do things with songs that we have never heard. you have one direction a song we never saw a classical side too. how do you pick songs and know they are going to work here? >> we pick the songs that sometimes you know they are popular songs. we try to make them authentic and then we record them on a cliff and lift a piano up a thousand feet or get on a train you have a lot of fun doing it we are going to show some of that here are the piano guys.

>> welcome back, everyone to a "fox & friends" christmas. nearly two months after hurricane sandy destroyed homes and lives, the images are still shocking, but, out of the destruction there were stories of amazing sacrifice. in queens, new york, two sisters organized hundreds of volunteers to help those stranded, long before fema and the red cross even could arrive. over in brooklyn, 18 staff members at the brooklyn aquarium risked their own lives to save the lives of those that they loved so much, the animals. the people you are about to meet embodied the true spirit of christmas. they are sisters jamie and jill jordan. and john dolland, director of

the new york city wildlife conservation society. and they are my guest. so great to see all three of you. >> thank you. >> it's such a true christmas story in the wake of the destruction that we went through here on the east coast with the hurricane. john, let me start with you. you, amongst 18 other staffers at this aquarium, you stayed there when you probably should have gone home to take care of maybe your other families but you stayed there for the animals. >> right. well, you have to understand everybody who works at the new york aquarium works there because they love animals. they are comifted to wildlife and comilted to caring for these animals. even though it was a voluntary situation for all of us, we really felt like we had no choice. >> gretchen: what were. so dangers that you were facing as the storm came bearing down. >> it sits on 14 acres right on the atlantic. we were worried about the animals obviously but we were taken by surprise by the extensive flooding that occurred. so, i think all of the staff was concerned.

we were key employed around the aquarium. waiting out the storm was a huge issue and safety issue. i think we were all just worried as we could be about the aquarium itself. a lot of our animals are down and exhibits in the basements which were flooded with 15 feet of water it was pretty stressful. >> gretchen: what was the survival rate of the animals. >> we lost almost none of our animals past the initial surge. fresh water fish out in outdoor ponds so things were lost immediately. but, beyond that the staff worked day and night literally we stayed there for a week working just to keep those animals going and to keep the systems going that would make them safe. >> gretchen: from animals to human lives. you are looking at two sisters. i mean, normally sisters, i have one, we love each other, sometimes we don't always just want to hang out together all the time but the two of you decided to bond together and help the human strife that was happening in your neighborhood. the people in our audience, in rock away. these are the two sisters who

came to help you. what did you decide to do? >> well, it all started, i guess, the night of the hurricane. i was home in rock away. my sister was in garden city in long island. and she was saying "i made you apple turnovers. my son wants you to come, evacuate." and i said no, dad is not evacuating, mom, our black is not evacuating so i stayed home but all of a sudden the flooding happened and i was getting really nervous and there was no way to communicate except through facebook. so my sister along with other women in our community katie and jessica created a facebook group to reach out and just let people know what was gotten on in rock away and then we quickly realized that the most important thing rock away needed was manpower. we posted something that said anybody who can come and help, just come on down to rock away. meet us on the steps of the church and anybody who needs help, email us your address. so we have these post-its and

we were writing people's addresses. the true heros are the volunteers that came down from brooklyn and other parts of queens that weren't damaged in manhattan. they came down and they were willing to do anything. so we would just literally handing out post-its go to 225 beechwood. go in this address and that address. >> the two of you were there before the red cross and even fema? >> well, it was a huge community effort. there were people in rock away like megyn and kalin fitzgerald, a group of women mostly and joe. [ laughter ] got together and was just like our community needs to be cleaned up. so we just were like what needs to happen? we're like obviously everything -- everybody's basement needs to come out. needs to come out now before the mold starts spreading. so we just started sending outs groups. more people were come. all of the people from my school. >> just so many people came

together. these are just three of the angels who decided to help in the matter of destruction. and some people are so grateful for what you did from animals to human beings. thank you so much. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> gretchen: let's go back over now to steve. >> steve: just a moment ago there was almost a little insurrection here because, jenna, what am i sitting in? >> santa's chair. >> steve: you got a problem with that? >> no.
